FOUNDER, PROFESSIONAL landscape architect (PLA)
Stephen Blewett, a native Angeleno, is a self-professed plant nerd whose passion is to infuse every landscape in the southern California region with indigenous vegetation. A graduate of the University of California, Davis Landscape Architecture program, Stephen has developed a talent over the years for ecologically based design by working at firms like BrightView Design Group (formerly Valley Crest Design Group) and Mia Lehrer + Associates. While at BrightView, Stephen spearheaded the effort to introduce more naturalistic design styles focused on California friendly plantings to projects like The Orange County Great Park (and soon to be open Sports Park) and several neighborhood parks, like Pavilion Park and Beacon Park. Stephen also collaborated with California Greenworks in the development of an Educational Native Plant and Butterfly Garden at Maya Angelou High School.
After accruing professional experience at both BrightView and Mia Lehrer + Associates, Stephen opened CRAFT (formerly Craft and Cultivate), which is focused on bringing wildlife back into our neighborhoods through intentional and site-specific residential and commercial design.
Outside of his practice, Stephen is committed to the pursuit of learning. In 2015 Stephen earned his UC California Naturalist Certificate, and has recently passed his professional licensure exams in landscape architecture (LARE). In his free time, Stephen can be found botanizing and birding in The San Gabriel Mountains, volunteering at community outreach events with the Theodore Payne Foundation for Wild Flowers and Native Plants, and teaching a course on California Native Plants at the UCLA extension.
