    Vegetative Community: Coastal Sage Scrub

REDBUD is a private residence perched on a hillside in the Glassell Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, CA, with 360 degree views.

The narrative for the landscape seeks to restore lost coastal sage habitat and embrace the warm afternoon breeze sweeping up over the hill and through the home. We did this by using drifts of California native grasses and bird loving perennials and shrubs.

Closer to the pool, we kept the refined narrative of the home and planted four 20’ tall California native fan palms to frame the view to the coast.

    Loving the Land

We studied this site through several design iterations—conceptualizing a small vineyard, a playful saunter, and even a minimalist perch. Eventually, we decided to embrace the existing pathways and steps opting for a less invasive approach.
