    Vegetative Community: Coastal Sage Scrub

CHAMISE is a powerhouse shrub of the chaparral, and like the shrub, our hopes for this small garden were much the same.

Our clients requested a complete overhaul of their turf heavy yard. They wanted an escape, a place to read and write, relax and exercise, entertain, and grow their own food, all within a space that resembled nature.

We outfitted this yard with carefully selected and placed boulders, a custom redwood bench, hammock, a small stone water feature, custom pull-up tower, flagstone patio with bistro table, raised cedar veggie beds. Surrounded by planting that resembles the local mountains, with chaparral plantings, and a perennial meadow with a newly planted California sycamore.

  • Platanus racemosa, Arctostaphylos glandulosa, Artemisia ‘Canyon Grey’, Ceanothus ‘Kurt Zadnick’, Ceanothus ‘Concha’, Eriogonum grande rubescens, Salvia apiana, Salvia mellifera ‘Terra Seca’, Carex praegracilis, Muhlenbergia dubia (nnp), Muhlenbergia rigens, Nassella lepida, Epilobium canum, Penstemon ‘Maragrita BOP’, Sisyrinchium bellum, Calystegia macrostegia ‘Anacapa Pink’, Vitis californica ‘Roger’s Red’
